Questions and answers

Here you find questions and answers regarding the fit4internet platform and the fit4internet tools to evaluate digital competences (f4i-tools).

Is fit4internet a learning platform?

Organisations and companies can assign specific training offers for digital skills from various providers to the competence areas and competence levels in accordance with the Digital Competence Framework for Austria (DigComp AT). This ensures a structured and standardised, demand-oriented offer for skills development.

Does the website offer opportunities for self-learning? Where can I find them?

The various f4it tools to assess digital competences offer users both direct feedback (answer results) and microlearning (explanatory texts) for an immediate learning effect.

Who defines digital literacy?

The European Commission has defined the Competence Framework for Digital Competence (DigComp 2.1), which has been adapted and further developed for Austria as the so-called Digital Competence Framework for Austria - DigComp AT.

What are the f4i-tools?

The f4i-tools give people the opportunity to evaluate their individual digital literacy in various areas (e.g. everyday life, work or safety). For this purpose, self-assessment questions (CHECK) and knowledge-based questions (QUIZ) are used. They are based on the Digital Competence Framework for Austria - DigComp AT, which again relies on the European standard DigComp 2.1.

What is the difference between a CHECK and a QUIZ?

A CHECK contains self-assessment questions, which guides participants through digital scenarios. The best suitable statement should be selected out of given answers. A QUIZ employs knowledge-based questions on the selected digital subject area. Contrary to the CHECK, there are clearly correct and incorrect answers. The two methods may also be combined in individual f4i-tools.

How were the f4i-tools developed and who ensures their quality?

Experts as well as institutions and companies from the fields of adult education, science and research are involved in the development of all f4i-tools for assessing digital skills. Various scientific institutes as well as the Task Force "Digital Competences" are involved in the quality assurance and the continuous development.

On what scientific logic are the f4i-tools and their results based?

The f4i-tools meet different needs for evaluating competences: from self-assessment questions (CHECK) to knowledge-based questions (QUIZ) and the evidence of digital skills (currently under development - e.g. certification, qualification) based on the Digital Competence Framework for Austria - DigComp AT. A large-scale quality review (quality criteria, item analyses) was conducted as part of a comprehensive field study in spring 2020. Quality assurance is carried out on a regular basis in order to ensure the relevance and timeliness of the items.

Which competence levels are covered by the f4i-tools?

The f4i-tools are used to assess digital literacy in the context of different scenarios and various subject areas (e.g. everyday life, work, safety). This is reflected in the expression and selection of questions and possible answers in the respective tools. The f4i-tools cover skills at levels 1 (basic) to 5 (advanced) defined in the Digital Competence Framework for Austria - DigComp AT. Special digital expertise reaching beyond these competence levels (levels 6 to 8) are currently not reflected in detail in the results of the f4i-tools.

What does the percentage number in an evaluation indicate?

Based on the answers, a percentage is determined automatically for each area of competence or individual skill covered by the f4i-tools. The percentage number provides information on the skills level in the respective competence area or the individual skill. The meaning of a certain percentage and its classification to a specific level of competence are explained directly in the evaluation under "Explanation of percentages".

Who can use the fit4internet-tools?

The f4i-tools are based on the Digital Competence Framework for Austria - DigComp AT and are thus tailored to the situation in Austria. As a result, the submission of an Austrian postal code is necessary for the online use of the f4i-tools in their current version. In the medium term, the aim is to make the f4i-tools also available to interested persons from other countries.

What is the "portal user"?

The function "portal user" provides companies, organisations, associations or other institutions with the opportunity - within the scope of a licensing model - to evaluate digital skills of defined groups of people by means of the f4i-tools and to analyse them within a concrete, individual context. This marks a tailor-made and demand-oriented starting point for the putting in place appropriate measures concerning the expansion of digital competences.

How can I, as a provider, register and advertise my educational offers on the website?

The referencing of training offers according to DigComp 2.3 AT (Digital Competence Framework for Austria) will be available from 1 January 2024 at https://digitalekompetenzen.oead.at.
